Okay...now I must confess...this year I have actually set a New Years Resolution
to actually blog on our family blog. It is taking some re-learning and lots
of trial and error. It is definitely far from perfect. But at least it is happening.
Now that I feel a little caught up maybe I'll start with 2011.

Christmas "photo shoot"

We were trying to find the perfect place to take our Christmas
photo of the kids. Maddi really wanted to show us her favorite
running spot which she thought would be absolutely perfect.
It was a race against the sun going down...literally.
We walked and walked and walked and finally arrived...
and it was perfect. The sun was actually almost set but the
pictures turned out great. Here are just a few.
The only child we couldn't get to smile was our littlest guy...
well I guess he smiled in one, only because he had his stick in hand.

Santa and the Tooth Fairy

I can't believe that this little guy has lost his first tooth!!
He is definitely growing up too fast. He has been complaining
about his painful wiggly tooth for months and his older
siblings have given him lots of advice on how to loosen it
faster and the best way to do this and that. Well Dallin
did it on his own sweet time and finally announced Christmas Eve
that his tooth was finally REALLLY wiggly. Bryce confirmed that
it was REALLY lose and of course Tom topped it off by yanking
it out. After a few tears from Dallin he ran upstairs to
find the toothfairy pillow he has been dying to use.
He then exclaimed, "Wow, I wonder if the toothfairy is
going to run into Santa Clause!!"

Gingerbread houses "A Family Tradition"

Decorating gingerbread houses has always been a family "tradition" of mine
growing up. So I thought. Actually we probably only made them
one or two times. But lucky for my kids it definitely has made the
traditions list. This year the kids created a gingerbread village. We used
all of the kids leftover Halloween candy...which they will probably claim
that I "took" their candy away forever. Just please notice all of the
sweet tarts, tootsie rolls, laughy taffys, and whoppers which usually
constitute as reject candy. But didn't they make beautiful
creations!! Too bad I forgot to take pictures while making
these beauties!!

If you ever wonder why there aren't any pictures of this girl with
the family during the fall...it is because she is ALWAYS running.
This season it all paid off with the team winning State.
What a huge accomplishment.

Halloween at our house

and everyone needs a mariachi band. (well at least part of the band!!)

And here they are displaying their loot. The funnest part of
trick-or-treating is comparing and trading candy.

Fall Harvest

We were so excited to hear that where we live you can actually
grow citrus trees and apples, peaches, and nectarines.
So when we put in our yard we put in fruit trees of
every kind. Last year our little fuji apple tree produced
about 5 lovely apples. Let's say that we each ate one off of the tree
and that was our entire harvest. This year we had more than
double that...enough to even make some caramel apples!!
So caramel apples we enjoyed. Can't wait to see what
happens next year!!

Our first baseball game of the season--we decided to go to an Angels game since they did so well last year. I guess we kind of jinxed them because they lost 5 to 2 to the Chcago White Sox. At least no one got sick this time so all is good.

Father & Sons

The "boys" always look forward to the annual Father & sons campout. (The girls do also because we get our own night) This year they went to Idywillde which is about an hour away. You know when Tom is excited when he checks Bryce out of school early to go. It looks like they had a great time and Dallin only came home with a scraped up elbow. Many good memories were made and Bryce was able to make it back for his 8:00 am soccer game.

Megan had her end of the year dance recital with Miss Jenny. It was so cute. Megan is quite the little dancer and is really showing some talent in performing on stage. She is a bit shy around others but never when she is performing. It is almost like a new Megan comes out and she shows no hesitations. I think that she enjoyed putting on a little make-up, curling her hair, and celebrating with a trip to Yogurt Island afterwards the best!!

Dallin is FIVE

Our baby boy Dallin turned Five on May 8. I can't believe that he will be in kindergarten next year. Dallin sure adds a bit of spunk to our family with his sense of humor. He loves to tease and play tricks on everyone. I don't know what I'd do without him jumping out and scaring me when I walk in the door. We love you Dallin!!

He was soooo excited to have his first birthday breakfast in bed. I know that it doesn't look like it from the picture but he did want to wear the "birthday hat"!!

Bryce is "12"

Bryce celebrated his birthday in April and had a fun campout at the beach to celebrate with some of his best friends. They had a great time playing air soft and just being boys. I figured it was much more fun and less clean up than having 12 boys in the house. Pictures will be included as soon as I can get them uploaded. As you can tell this is our Birthday month with each child getting a year older and also Tom and I celebrating another year of marriage. 17 years already!! I am anxiously awaiting the big 20 and a nice European vacation--hint!! hint!!

Bryce turned 12 the end of April and became a deacon in our church. He was very excited for the occasion and so were his grandpa's. Both grandpa Baugh from Utah and grandpa Bob from Phoenix were able to be here. We had a great time visiting over the weekend and of course played a few games of boce ball and croquet. We are so proud of Bryce and his excitement in receiving the priesthood. He is quite an example to all of us and we are so blessed to have him in our family.

Madison is 14!!!

Maddi has been wanting to get her ears pierced for years--but we have always said that she couldn't until she was 14!! Well that day is finally here and Tom is wishing he'd never agreed to that. I think that he is having a harder time admitting that his daughter is growing up. So for her birthday she got her ears pierced and some make-up. Now Megan is already working on her dad. Good luck little Megan!!

It's hard to believe that Maddi is 14. I guess that I must come to the realization that she is definitely a teenager now. Luckily she is a very good natured one and we love to have her in our family. I told her that this year we were going to have a small party with just pizza and a movie and she could invite a few friends. So we printed out some "Twilight" invitations and didn't even ask for an RSVP. Luckily the day of the party I asked Maddi--"so how many girls are planning on coming to the party?" Of course I was totally shocked when she replied "Oh--not more than 20!!" "What!!" I exclaimed "That's a lot of girls!!" But the damage was done and I just needed to make sure that I picked up a few more pizzas. Well Maddi was a little off in her estimation--I counted 24 girls!! Hopefully they had a fun time playing Twilight Trivia and Scavenger hunt. The movie was on as background noise as the girls ate, talked, laughed, texted, and did what girls do best.

Easter morning

Of course one of these days I will remember that when I upload photos I should upload the ones I want first last. I'm still trying to get the hang of this blogging. Anyways--For the past two FHE's we've had special lessons on Christ's atonement and the resurrection and the true meaning of Easter. I mean who invented a big furry bunny filling baskets with candy and chocolate. Megan I getting a little leary of the entire thing and has many questions. But it is still fun to see the kids trying to find their baskets on Easter morning. The candy filled plastic egg hunt is also fun--but how do you teach them not to be greedy and get too many--when your competitive nature says "the more you find the more candy you'll get". Life is a delicate balance which I am still trying to figure out. But next year--the truth may just have to come out. Being a child and having children is "magical". I just hope that mine will realize just how important the Saviour is to me and to each of them as A Child of God.

spring break in Lake Tahoe

The last day I took Megan and Dallin ice skating at the outdoor skating rink. It was definitely a sight to be seen. Dallin was a mess of scrambling little legs as he tried his best to stay upright--but couldn't even stand up. Megan did quite well and even tried to skate backwards and do spins. Eventually Dallin got the hang of it and was very proud of himself for not giving up.

For our second week of spring break we decided to go to Lake Tahoe to do some spring skiing. We stayed in a condo a mile away from the biggest ski resort in Tahoe. It was so big that some of the runs were in Nevada and some in California. Madison and Bryce have become pretty good skiers and are much faster that Tom and I. I think that I've just become much more cautious. Bryce really loves moguls and Maddi loves to go as fast as she can. We went down the Olympic downhill run which didn;t impress her at all!! We each took turns babysitting Megan and Dallin back at the condo. They had a great time playing with toys all day and didn't even get out of their pajamas. They loved the huge jacuzzi tub. Each day when we got home Tom took them out for some snow play which they loved.

spring break at Disney

I just love that we have 2 week spring breaks. It is so nice to have some quality family time amist our busy lives. This year we decided to have a short Disney vacation while Madison was on her East Coast trip with school. We even booked a hotel across from the happiest place on earth and it was the best 3 days of Disney we have ever had. It was so nice to get up and do Disney for a few hours and then go back to the hotel and enjoy the pool and nap during the most crowded and hot afternoons. Too bad that we learned this trick the week before our year passes expire!! Anyways--here are a few pix to enjoy.

Did I mention that Dallin loves to dress up. What I think that I failed to mention is that he designs his own costumes and wears them ALL of the time. Here are just a few from the past month. Lets see if you can guess what he is!!

I just love his serious picture taking face that he does lately. I guess he is too old for a cute smile anymore. Also the picture where he is lying on the ground sleeping. He slept like that for over an hour and swears that he never even fell asleep--even after looking at the picure.

March happenings!!

Dallin is all ready to ride his bike. Notice the gloves to protect his hands!! That was his idea. Anyways--Tom was going to be spending a couple hours with Dallin and I suggested that maybe he was ready to learn to ride a bike. Well notice that we have no pictures with Tom running with Dallin and teaching him to ride--that is because all Tom really had to do was take off the training wheels. Dallin just took off!! Good job Dallin!! Maybe you'll be able to advance from the pink and purple hand me down bike very soon!! We definitely hope so. I thought that this picture was so cute because he has his tongue sticking out with concentration--just like someone else I know!!

We took a little family trip to San Diego last weekend. The weather was absolutely beautiful. We live in such a wonderful place. I love being able to go to the beach when it is warm and to the snow when its cold. All within 1 hour from our front door!!

Here Megan was lucky enough to be chosen to be a part of the dolphin show at Sea Word. She absolutely loved it. We have gone to Sea World so much as a family that each of our kids has been able to do this. Hopefully Dallin will get chosen this year so that he won't feel deprived!!

What fun would it be at the beach without a family game of football!!

We stayed the night on Coronado at the Navy Lodge. It was just beautiful. Dallin was getting a little cold and grumpy so we didn't really get to finish our family photos at the beach--so I thought I'd include some that we took a few months ago.

Did I mention that we go to the snow everytime we have a snow storm in Southern Ca. Illywilde is about an hour away and they got close to 2 feet of snow the week of Valentines Day. Kate and Nate came and visited with their 2 week old baby Michah; SO CUTE!! We decided that if we couldn't go skiing we might as well go play in the snow. Katie even tried sledding--just don't tell her OB. Sledding 2 weeks after a C section might not have been approved!! We were so happy to have a visit from them--it has been a long time.

The snow was a bit deeper than Dallin wanted--sledding down the hill is much more fun than walking up.

This past month in Dallin's joyschool we have been learning about those who serve in our community. So we had a little field trip to the local Firestation. The kids had a great time and the highlight of course was receiving a "real" fireman hat. Dallin of course has been dressing up as a fireman everyday since. Once of these days I'll post about his dressing up. He comes up with the cutest creations!!

We also had a day to learn about doctors. How convenient to have one in our own home to give all the kids a mini physical. Its a good thing that we are getting our money's worth from that medical school!!

Well that about sums up what we have done this past month. Time is just flying by. The kids start Spring Break today!! I'm so excited for the warm weather, planting the garden and flowers and just getting outside to enjoy!! Madison leaves on her East Coast trip tonight. She can't wait. Many of you know that we had to put our dog Sandy down over the summer. Since then the kids have been begging for a new puppy and we just keep putting them off--telling them we need to wait for warmer weather, the grass to grow back again, you know--anything to put off the inevitable potty training, chewing, biting, chewing stages of a puppy. Well we thought our prayers were answered when a friend called saying that they had found a golden retriever and had posted signs EVERYWHERE for weeks and no one had called. Of course I said we'd foster the dog and hopefully adopt it if noone claimed her. The kids were overjoyed and we enjoyed having Lindy or Chloe or Kayia at our home for a week. Well yesterday someone called and seemed to be the owner. I had just gotten done yelling at the dog for chewing up more of my plants and a pair of shoes--so maybe it was an answer to my prayers (JK). The owner came and we chatted and she took "Kaiya" home. I knew the kids would be heartbroken that an owner had been found. To my surprize within an hour the lady called back saying she had discussed with her husband and wanted us to have "Kaiya". So she brought her back with puppy papers and everything--of course this was after I had just cleaned up her last destructive mess. The kids got home from school and I told them all that happened and they were overjoyed that "Chloe" was now going to be ours. Not for long--the lady called back and said that her son was sad and wanted "Kaiya" back. So back she came and loaded "Kaiya" in her car and left me with four crying children. Of course the only way to console them was to promise them that we would get a puppy soon. What was I thinking!!!! Stay tuned for the next episode of the "puppy saga"!!

Bryce and Madison had a day off of school so of course we headed up to Big Bear to hit the slopes. They each brought a friend and we had a great time. You can't beat So Ca skiing with temperatures in the high 60's. Who cares if the snow is man made--we can't wait to go again!!

I thought I'd better post some of our "snow" pictures now before we get some new fun ones. It has been a cold, rainy day here and the mountains are covered in clouds. But tomorrow the mountains will be full of snow and my "snow crazed" husband will take us on a snow outing . I'm sure that it will include lots of sledding and snow ball fights. I'm good as long as I can have warm hot chocolate as soon as the fun has ended and noone is crying.

Here we are having some fun at a hill in Spanish Fork, Utah at a local school. Of course on the fence was a big sign posted "no sledding, tubing, or other snow activities" Did that stop us--of course not. What are people afraid of--law suits!!

We all know them as "icycles" but Dallin was insistant that

they were "swords". He was so excited to find one hanging

from our tailpipe and broke it off to play with it. He even

wanted to take it home with him and was very dissappointed

when we told him that it would just melt.

Of course she probably ate more candy than ended up on the house.

Every year the kids get to invite some of their friends over to make gingerbread houses. It is a lot of preparation for me but to see them creating and enjoying themselves with their friends makes it all worth it. This year was Megan's turn. Here they are sipping hot chocolate before feasting on candy--I mean decorating their houses. I overheard many exclamations from the girls that this was the funnest time ever!!!!

Every year the kids get to open two presents on Christmas Eve. Of course Dallin didn't understand and was hoping to open one of his choosing. I'm sure that he will soon learn that this pre-Christmas present opening usually consists of pajamas and an ornament.

Bryce hanging his ornament. Our tree is getting quite full after all of these years of ornament giving. My mom started this tradition when I was young and she eventually gave me my ornaments to hang on our family tree. It is neat to show the kids the ones that I received as a child.

Of course no Christmas Eve would be complete without our live Nativity and Christmas program. Dallin really enjoyed the singing and acting out the story of the birth of Jesus. In fact he asked to do it every night.
